Do you have 38 pairs of underwear? 🩲

Hey Reader,

Okay, I have a confession to make... well, actually, it’s not my confession. A subscriber recently sent me an email about switching her drawers from summer to winter, and she gave me permission to share part of her story anonymously.

She decided to take inventory of her underwear drawer. Thirty-eight pairs. Thirty-eight. And that didn’t even include the ones waiting at the bottom of the laundry basket.

But here’s the part that made me laugh:

Despite having 38 pairs to choose from, she realized she was wearing the same small rotation over and over again. Including one particularly beloved pair that had apparently been through enough (including a surgical trim job with scissors 😆)…well, let’s just say they’d earned retirement.

Instead, she decided to try something she called “Underwear Roulette.” She’d wear each pair, and at the end of the day, it would either get tossed or earn its spot back in the drawer. How fun is that?!

So that’s your challenge this week: Let’s declutter the underwear drawer.

Find 5 pairs that can go, here are some ideas what to look for:

  • The uncomfortable ones. If you’re constantly adjusting, pulling, tugging, or wishing you were wearing something else…why are they still here?
  • The stretched-out ones. Elastic doesn’t last forever, especially with underwear. If they no longer support you like you deserve, it's time to say goodbye.
  • The ones with holes, stains, or other signs of retirement. You know exactly which ones are popping in your head right now. They’ve served their purpose. It’s okay to let them go.
  • The “I never wear these” ones. Seasons of life change and so it also is with our underwear. Even if you used to love them, if you never find yourself wearing them anymore, that's useful data that they no longer belong.
  • The pair you keep repairing instead of replacing. If you’re getting creative with scissors, sewing, or other questionable solutions to keep a pair alive…it might be time. 😂

And here’s your permission slip: You don’t need to keep underwear just because there’s technically nothing wrong with it. If you have plenty of options you like better, that’s enough.

You don’t need 38 choices. You need enough clean underwear that you actually want to wear. And if you’re feeling particularly brave, you could even try your own version of Underwear Roulette (hint, if there's a pair you hate even the idea of wearing all day, that's a big clue it's time to say goodbye!)

Happy decluttering!

Hi Reader, It’s officially October, which means pumpkins, cozy blankets, fall candles, and Halloween decorations are probably starting to make their way out of storage. 🍂🎃 But before you put everything back out this year, let’s do a little reality check first. Because here’s the thing about seasonal decorations: just because you stored it last year doesn’t mean you have to put it back out this year. The easiest way to declutter seasonal items is right as you pull them out. Here are some ideas...

Hi Reader, After last week’s adventure in the underwear drawer, I figured we might as well keep going with the small stuff. This week: socks. And if your house is anything like mine, you probably have at least a few socks that have been living a very uncertain life. You know the ones. In our house they've lovingly earned the name, lone bros. One sock with no matching partner, sitting around waiting for the other one to magically reappear. So this week’s challenge is simple: Find 5 socks to...

Hi Reader, As we start heading into fall, it’s time to bring the pants back into rotation. Pants are one of those categories where it’s really easy to hold onto things that don’t actually belong in your wardrobe anymore. So this week, let’s find 5 pairs to let go of, here are some ideas to help make the decision easier: The pants that don’t fit today. Not the size you used to be. Not the size you’re hoping to be someday. Clothes that don’t fit aren’t actually motivation to reach a certain...
